UPCOMING DEVELOPMENTS

 SGDSAA DEVELOPMENT CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

- NEIL COETZER

19 June 2013

After the tackle box on “Fishing Shelly Beach” the first in our development strategy for this year, held at ERBFC/Nomads clubhouse and presented by Richard Hartley, as it was a huge success, we have continued in the same vein with the following development initiatives for Southern Gauteng

A “Fishing Sodwana” evening was held to help the guys get ready for the Rosebowl hosted by Nomads.  The aspects that were covered were game fishing presented by myself, Sail Fishing presented by Friedel Kirstein and Marlin Fishing presented by Sarel Allers, who flew up from Richards Bay specially to do the talk.  A big thank you to Friedel and Sarel for imparting their knowledge and keeping 40 fishermen interested and entertained.  The feedback received by the Development Committee was all positive and encouraging that these tackle boxes are beneficial to anglers old and new.

The SGDSAA Development Theory day (held every two years), this year was held at Mia’s Woodmead and the new handbook was launched.  A massive thank you to both Lynette Adams and Mandy Webster for the enormous amount of time and effort they put into getting this new and revised manual ready, it looks fantastic.  Thank you to all those that gave their time and knowledge to revising the content.  The new handbook has been very well received and I have had nothing but positive feedback from everyone that has purchased one.  The event was attended by between 35/45 people and talks were given by Richard Hartley (Game Fish), Ian van Zyl (Sail Fish), Nick van Zyl (Bottom Fish) and myself, again a very special thank you to the speakers who gave up their time and were prepared to share their knowledge with the angling community, a great day was had by all.  An added bonus that came out of this event was that I know of 5 people present that have now joined Southern Gauteng clubs.  Following this will be the Practical Development which is being held in Durban in October, we are currently sitting with 20 anglers who have signed up for this and most of these are already fully paid.

The next planned development talk will be on Fish Finders and GPS’s for the layman as well as a talk on maintenance of stainless steel.  This will be held on the 1st August at ERBFC/Nomads clubhouse, the invitations will be going out later this week.

Once again I would like to thank everyone who has given their time and input into making these sessions beneficial to all anglers.
